at over a dozen Open Source Comes to Campus events now. I've used the same
activity to introduce git at several different conferences. No exploded
brains so far! :)

If you use the traditional OSCTC curriculum, including the git activity,
students will have been introduced to forking, pull requests, etc.
Certainly they won't be experts, but with the help of their mentors they
should be able to send pull requests if they have pull requests to send.

It's been our experience that students really vary in how far they can get
during a day. The key is to give students the opportunity to contribute
while not making them feel bad if they don't get to that point during the
workshop.
