I have 2 powerbars with very long cords. These, combined with the first two rows should cover us.

Hi, sounds good to stick with ECS104 and have extra extension cords and power supplies available. I am wondering who would be providing these?

Also that's great news the registration is already in the 30s!

Checking we have 33 people registered, so I think as much as the room I suggest would be great for the event - it will simply be too many people. Oh well, we can still make this awesome - Sorry for the brief, detour!
Can we go with Plan B then of auditorium - with more electric? It might help to just walk through the day with someone on Skype this week?
Thanks

We will also have to consider a cap on registration as u believe this room is considerably smaller than ECS 104.

Nevertheless it might be the solution and I would be fine with the change!

I don't see a problem with the change if you think it will be easier to coordinate for computers. Let me know if this is decided and I can change the website to show the new location!

Topic for this set for room.

I have run events at U of Vic before with donation of MacLaurin D211 , which the professor says I can have again for this - if you would consider this substitute.

They have approx 17 computers, great setup, projector and central set of tables where if students prefer they can still use their own laptops - and there's a tech who will also coordinate with me for with technology requests like having Firefox browser installed (etc)
Please let me know how this sounds. I would be the point person to organize keys, and responsibility. IF not I totally understand and can work with the auditorium you've already reserved.

Thanks

Hi Laura,
Assuming there is good wireless available?
Also tiny bit concerned about power, because even a fully charged laptop will die out by end of session.
I want to craft an email to the participants prior to the event about laptops and setup. Was there an indication on registration or media that they need to bring their own laptop?
Thanks!

Hi Emma,

ECS 104 is a lecture hall without any computers so attendees will have to bring their own. Also, there are power outlets only in the first two rows so a reminder to come with charged laptops may be helpful!

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

This event is next week so I want to outline a couple of things, some may be redundant, but there are some new people on the thread:
When: Saturday Oct 18th, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Where: Engineering Computer Science Bldg (ECS Room 104)
Event invite: (should you want to share): http://victoria.openhatch.org/
Current Number Registered: 27
Mentors/Helpers: 8 (including Emma)

* We should cap attendance unless more mentor sign-up soon.

Facilitator(s)

Current Agenda: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wYiFHjziyMMy36hcQeq46SzRY6uZouSafnU0alX7jug/edit
Open Hatch Cirriculum (We'll use some, but not all of this): https://openhatch.org/wiki/Open_Source_Comes_to_Campus/Curriculum
Open Source Project: Mozilla Webmaker http://webmaker.org <http://webmaker.org>

I still need to know a few (important things) from U of Vic Folks.

1. How many computers do we have OR are students bringing their own
2. If students are bringing their own, I would like to include on the reminder email the option for 'prework' in Laptop Setup<https://openhatch.org/wiki/Open_Source_Comes_to_Campus/Curriculum/Laptop_setup>
3. I have $ for pizza, but is someone coordinating the listed allergies with an actual order?
4. If we have lab computers, can we ask for a specific setup (ie browser and other software be pre-loaded?). Also do we need passwords ?
5. Who are my contacts (and what are their phone numbers for this day)
6. Will I have a projector screen, or smartboard to connect to my laptop for presentation?
7. What supplies do we need that we don't currently have? (name tags, pens for example)

Does anyone you have any questions for me? Mentors I'll will send you some reading to do before he event (if you feel like it) .
Thanks!
-Emma
