[Campus-purdue-staff] hosting an "Introduction to Open Source" event at Purdue in September

Yes, do please keep copies of the receipts. Our university business office will need payees' addresses as well, so with that information we should be able to get the check turned around quickly.

Bloomington is about 2.5 hours' drive, and Chicago a bit more depending on your ultimate destination. Late morning/early afternoon is perfect. If we got started at 11 or 12, broke for lunch, then did the rest fueled by snacks, would that work? What time do you need to be in Chicago, and what time do you need to do what you do?

As for food, we usually provide a vegetarian option but are there other dietary restrictions I should plan for, or suggestions in that vein? I'm thinking sandwiches or a burrito bar for lunch, and bagels/spread or chips/pretzels plus some fruit for the afternoon.

Please refer to "us" as the Computer Science Women's Network at Purdue, and our website is http://www.cs.purdue.edu/cswn -- we have some logos on our "Resources" page if you'd like to use those.

I made an assumption that this event would be bring-your-own-device and so requested a classroom (approval still pending) instead of a computer lab. Should I change venues for us?

On last question, regarding titling: "Open Source Comes to Campus: Purdue"?

However, our current plan is to come up from Bloomington the morning of the event, and leave for Chicago in the evening after the event, so we don't need to rent a hotel room in Lafayette. This means that we wouldn't be able to start the event until the late morning/early afternoon. Which means lunch, and perhaps late afternoon snacks?

From now on you should be able to address replies just to the list campus-purdue-staff at lists.openhatch.org, and you'll reach myself, my co-organizer Asheesh, and any other staff that get added to the list.

Our events are usually all day but we're looking to try out a shorter version - a consolidated set of quick and dirty tutorials, a career panel/history of free software over lunch or dinner (depending on timing), and a few hours of submitting to open source projects.

We'll be getting the word out to our members and to other students via email lists, flyers, bulletin boards, and potentially class announcements. What else can we help you with?

Your school website tells me the fall semester starts on Monday (Aug 19th) - how long after might it take for you to chart events out? We'd need at least a couple weeks of lead time for planning and publicity purposes.

I was wondering if the Computer Science Women’s Network might be interested in hosting a "How to get involved in open source" workshop at Purdue on or around the weekend of September 21st and 22nd.
