[Events] how to approach disengaged attendees

We've talked about using the Software Carpentry post-it notes before. I'm
worried it might seem a little over the top for our events, which are
typically smaller and less intensive. They also require organizers to
constantly remind attendees to "refresh" their post it notes. But I
definitely see the value.
*Asking if someone needs a hand is only awkward the first time.*
Different people have different social skills and tolerances for
awkwardness. Asking people if they need help is much harder for some than
others. I'm hoping that having explicit instructions and suggested
phrases/approaches will help those who find it hard.
