[Events] Python user group outreach report, 2014-02-12 edition

Here's what I sent the outreach-and-education committee this week!

(the subject line suggests this report is from Wednesday, although I wrote it
on Thursday)

This past week, I:

* Contacted about 10 women who are speaking at PyCon, to encourage them to
speak in their local user groups.

* This resulted in about 5 people I've connected with their local group
organizers, although these are not yet fully materialized, and I don't expect
100% of them to turn into something.

* Talked with Sheila Miguez and other Chicago-area Python people about their
search for an outreach coordinator (also, arguably made a fool of myself by
writing a misunderstand-able email to the Chicago at Python.org email list). I
believe they're making progress in a positive way.

* This may look short, but it took a fair bit of time to do a reasonable job of
the above (even if I could have done an even better job possibly).

* Scheduled a sync-up with Angie about the upcoming Hackbright/PyLadies Django
SF event. (I missed my video chat with Lynn, due to sleeping through most of
Wednesday. Frown.)

* Caught a cold, which impaired my ability to stay awake and get things done.

* Mostly fully have recovered.

Obstacles:

* None at the moment.

This future week, I aim to:

* "Seal the deal" on more of these talks.

* Get back in touch with user groups who have expressed an interest in running
intro-y events.

Other remarks:

* There are going to be a lot of great talks this PyCon!

* I had mentioned books about sales. Sumana asked me on IRC which ones I've
been reading, and I'm nearly done with _Drive_ by Daniel Pink, which it turns
out is not actually about sales. _To Sell Is Human_ by Daniel Pink is probably
actually about sales; that's next on the queue.
