[Events] Calendar feed?

This is something we've tried to do in the past, and we ran into a few
logistical problems that perhaps arose from biting off more than we could
chew.

First, let me say Sheila, I would love for us to have this!

In 2010 as I recall, Clara Raubertas and I worked on running another
instance of "Calagator", oriented around newcomer-friendly online events in
free software. I was inspired by things like Mozilla's IRC- and video-based
meetings that anyone can join, which seem to me like a good way to get to
know people who care about a project. (To find just two references:
https://blog.mozilla.org/meeting-notes/
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/meeting )

We set up something, but then we lost focus on it, and didn't encourage
people to add content. I think that calendar pre-dates the first Boston
Python Workshop for women and their friends, which was a big milestone in
my history of helping run outreach events; it led to OpenHatch people
inviting more people to this list, and to the creation of
OpenHatch-Affiliated Events. It also led to Open Source Comes to Campus.

Sheila, a question for you -- are you thinking of just listing upcoming
Open Source Comes to Campus events, or also listing other
OpenHatch-affiliated events, or even, something bigger?

To take a quick aside and talk about two existing public, open source
calendar web apps, let me mention:

* Calagator: http://calagator.org/ -- used in Portland for local tech scene
events (and has a Calagator Code Sprint today!!) (I know some of these
folks via Open Source Bridge, and they seem like an amazing bunch of
people.)

* GriCal, aka Grid Calendar -- blog with screenshots here:
http://grical.soup.io/ . Grical people seem to be moving over to working on
http://wikical.com/ , which is not yet ready for use, as far as I can tell.
(I watched them win an award!

To me, the main options for having an OpenHatchy events calendar are:

* Google Calendar, hopefully with permissions set so that there are a few
people who can add events, or

* Calagator, but we'd probably have to run our own instance, or

* Use Wikical on the web, but the software would have to be ready, which it
seems not to be yet, but I can't quite tell, but the website anyway doesn't
say it's ready.

I wonder if the Calagator people would be willing to maintain an "Open
source outreach events that aren't necessarily in Portland" second
instance. Actually, maybe I'll send a link to this thread to their email
list, and see what they think.
