Hello,
We've got the room booked from 9am - 3pm.
Based on the past OpenHatch ones, here's a first draft of the agenda:
- (Breakfast) -- helpful to get people to arrive on time, plus mingle
with each other ahead of time
- Laptop setup -- would like to handle as much as possible in separate
session(s) beforehand, given the short day
-
- Introductions
- Ethics & history of free software
- OSS project organization & communication tools
- different roles within project,
- IRC and its netiquette,
- mailing lists,
- bug trackers (lifecycle of a bug, how to provide all the relevant
info when reporting)
- Version control (diff, git, possibly svn)
- How to create and submit a patch to a bug tracker for review
- [Optional?] a panel of professional involved in open source software
development (possibly comprised of the facilitators)
- how did they first got involved
- how their present work related to OSS
- advice for attendees
- (Lunch)
- A contribution demo (using GitHub?)
- Student hacking session
- Survey & discussion of upcoming
opportunities/meetups/hack-a-thons/hack nights/etc -- this could be kicked
to over email
- (Reset the room)
Your thoughts?
Katherine
