Hi Shauna,

All right, could I get back to you with a tentative date by Wednesday evening?

Thank you for your time!
Regards,
Eehita

Hi Eehita,

There's really a lot of flexibility for these events. Most events are a full day workshop, but we've done several shorter events successfully. If you're worried about not having the bandwidth to plan another big event in addition to Boilercode (which sounds awesome, by the way!) you could do a shorter, more informal event covering the basic "What is open source?" stuff as well as perhaps the git/github tutorial.

We encourage schools to open up the event to neighboring schools, especially if there's plenty of space for them, but that's up to you.

Also, would it be an event for an entire day or just an evening workshop?

Thanks,

Hi Shauna,

I recently attended a Conference and most of the members of our group were there. I discussed the idea with them and all of them found the idea really interesting. Thing is, everyone is working towards 'Boilercode' - an event where high school girls can get involved in Computing and that is in the first week of April. And, after that, we just have several exams. I believe we would require more people to help with organizing to make the OpenHatch Event a success. Could we make this event happen in Fall 2015? I will definitely put in all my effort to make it work in Fall.

Also, I just want to clarify what exactly the OpenHatch event would be about. This is what I have understood - So, college students would be provided with software with the chance to modify it and work on projects. And, individuals with little experience would have workshops (maybe 2 hours?) to work on projects. Am I correct in understanding this? Also, would it be only for Purdue students?

Thank you for your time!
Regards,
Eehita

Awesome. If you have a date and location set, you can make an event on our event website: https://events.openhatch.org/

Sounds great! Do you have a room, too? Please let me know if you need any help or have any questions with regard to organizing. :)

Hi Shauna,

Sorry for the delayed reply! Yes, I did. We are planning to reach out to more girls in Computer Science Women's Network to make this event work.

Thanks,
Eehita

Hi Eehita,

Were you able to reach out to Elliott?

The last week of March is approaching fairly fast, so if you want to have an event in that timeframe, we should get to organizing! :)

Do you want to ask Elliott Williams if he wants to help organize? He's the OpenMRS contributor who was excited to mentor last fall.

Hi Shauna and Lauren! :)

I'm interested and I think any date in probably the last week of March or first week of April would be suitable?

Hi Lauren and Eehita!

Are you ready to try again? :)

You can pick pretty much any date. While I'll try to be available on the day of the event, experience has shown that I'm really, really not needed - most organizers don't ask me for any help at all. :) So, if you're interested, please pick a date that works well for you and your community.

best
Shauna
