[Campus-purdue-staff] checking in

That's too bad, but understandable. In terms of spring events, we're
altering our process to help campuses pick the best dates for their
schools. My recommendation for scheduling for the spring is to find 5+
dates over the course of the semester that work for you and for the school,
and then reach out to potential mentors and see what works best for them.
Hopefully that way the event will have an easy time finding students *and*
mentors.
I don't think there's anyone to tell beyond the mentor list and the student
sign-ups.
One more thought - you might consider hosting a very informal social get
together for the students who signed up and the mentors who volunteered
sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'm imagining an hour or two of
eating pizza and chatting about open source. I think this will help folks
keep in touch and make it easier to plan for next time, plus it will give
students who are really excited about open source a chance to get some
advice on exploring on their own.
