We have templates for customized publicity emails to various science
departments and clubs, which often increase turnout:

One thing to keep in mind is that the templates were written when we were
more focused on having students find their own projects, so the language in
the template suggests that students who come to the event can work on open
source science projects.  This is technically true, but I think not the
focus of your event.
