[Campus-gmu-staff] hope everything went well!

* I can't specifically recall the projects / software students were interested in working on, perhaps the mentors more directly involved in the conversations could chime in?
* I think around 4-5 high school students showed up; they all seemed to enjoy the introduction & the career panel.
* The most disappointing part of the event was the lack of structure in the final contributions workshop. No one present had a clear idea of how the event would best be structured & run, so it was a little chaotic getting started. Once students started engaging in the conversation, though, things went more smoothly. It seemed like most students didn't have a clear idea of what they wanted to work on, so either having more events like this to increase exposure to Open Source projects, or having a more strictly defined & structured workshop session (which might not be possible due to massive differences in student skill levels) would help.
* Pictures should be available on the Mason SRCT facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.558685994249975.1073741835.288369651281612 I can give access to the full resolution photos on request.

Let's do this asynchronously via email, so that others can chime in if they have opinions/feedback. I also got a fair bit of debriefing from Luke, who was at the MIT event this past weekend.
* You say that there were a few tables of students and mentors talking/working at the end of the day. Do you recollect anything about the projects being worked on and/or the conversations that were had? Basically, what were the most interested attendees interested in? Were you able to write down/identify these interested students for follow up later? (If not, would it have been helpful for us to ask you to do that ahead of time or provide you with some kind of tool for it? This is something I do when I'm physically present at events but hesitate to ask organizers to do for fear of overburdening you.)
* Did any high school students or younger kids end up coming? I know there were several that were possibly going to.
* Was there anything about the event that was unexpected or disappointing, or that you feel you could have been better prepared by us for? Please do feel free to give constructive feedback - it's important to help us improve.
* Are any of you interested in writing up the event in a short blog post for the OpenHatch blog? Totally optional. :)
* Let me know when the pictures are up!
Thanks, Michel!

I'm available to debrief via Hangout or IRC (or async via email) next week before noon or after three any day but Tuesday. (Sorry for the delay in response)

So glad to hear it. I'd love to do a debriefing session, via IRC or hangouts or even email, to get a more detailed sense of what went right, and what we could do better. The mentor exit surveys are our attempt to make sure we get some kind of feedback, but it'd be great to have more of a conversation. I don't think I can overstate the value we've gotten from feedback from local hosts, organizers and mentors. :)

Hi,
The event went really well! Attendance was high -- I don't think we got an exact headcount, but the room felt comfortably full. The career panel and prof. Luke's talk were both very enjoyable. People started leaving toward the end since the day felt like it was running long, but there were a solid 2-3 tables of attendees and mentors left having good conversations.
We should have pictures organized and uploaded soon. I'll send out the exit surveys as well.
Best,
Michel

Hi all,
I hope everything went well at the event today! There were no frantic requests for help, which seems like a good sign. :) I'd love to hear about how things went - how many people came, if there were any problems, what seemed to work especially well.
I also have a request: can whoever is in charge of emailing students send them this exit survey?

For mentors and organizers - we'd love to get feedback on what you think we did well and how we can improve. If you could fill out this (different) survey:

Feel free to give any additional feedback via email, either on this list or privately.
best
Shauna
