[Campus-gmu-staff] status

Not sure if I've already replied to this email or not, but publicity is under full swing at the moment.

We've reached out to every academic department's mailing list at GMU, posted on regional and local universities' subreddits, contacted local high schools and hacker groups in DC as well. I added several new people to the google drive as well so that they could access the template emails to send out. As a consequence, the number of RSVP'd attendees is slowly growing but definitely still shy of what I'd hoped for.

What are the next major steps in terms of preparing and organizing volunteers? I haven't been paying too close of attention to that side of things since it seemed like it was being taken care of for the most part.

Best,

Michel

What's the status on publicity? I saw we have 22 confirmed attendees - that's great, but it's my understanding we have space for a bunch more. Are there other elements of the publicity process we've yet to do?

I can take care of the email dissemination.

Additionally, we're expanding publicity to the nearby high schools and community colleges to try and get more attendees soon, hopefully.

Additionally, I'd like to send out an email tomorrow afternoon to the current list of sign-ups giving them a list of some of the projects that will be represented at the event so they can get started early if they want to. Is there a single person who is in charge of contacts with students who this email should go through?

Checking in on the status of publicity/sign-ups and volunteers.

re: sign-ups - we have 28 sign-ups, currently, which given a 50% no-show rate (about our average) is only 14 students. What other avenues for doing publicity are there? Have emails gone out to science department heads? All relevant student groups? Can we print paper flyers?

We've got 11 people tentatively confirmed to volunteer - there are lots of other people we can contact but I want to hold off until we've got enough sign ups to justify that.
