This is a follow up to my previous email about a potential mentorship
program (see <
http://lists.openhatch.org/pipermail/osctc-planning/2014-May/000058.html>).
I've updated the wiki page for the mentorship program (<
https://openhatch.org/wiki/Mentoring>) to include notes from that email and
this one.
I have a proposed structure for the mentoring program which includes:
* A mailing list for mentees to talk to each other, and an expectation that
mentees will post at least once a month. I need to brainstorm a bit more
what kind of discussion I want to see on the list and how I can support
that (discussion prompts, codes of conduct, mentee selection, etc).
* Monthly IRC meetups.
* Goal-setting (see here for details: <
https://openhatch.org/wiki/Mentoring#Goal-setting_Process>).
* Pairing with a mentor. (I've found pair programming/pair planning to be
immensely useful, and would like to average 1 pairing session per month per
mentee.)
*Open Questions:*
~ Right now, I have only a vague sense that the mailing list and meetups
will meet the needs of our mentees as described on the wiki (and in the
previous email). What can I do to address these needs more directly?
~ What selection criteria should we use for mentees? Should we prioritize
diversity?
~ When should the mentorship program start?
Feedback is welcome, as always.
