The ideas on the etherpad look very neat. This was pending for a while
now. I'd request you to look at <http://lwn.net/Calendar/> as an
example of how the sparse view helps in figuring out the events.
Additionally, <http://lwn.net/Calendar/Monthly/cfp/> is a handy
feature to have.
