Looks good to me. I have just one tentative suggestion:

"Students appeared to get a great deal out of these beginning steps, and
did not seem to mind having to stop before they’d even decided what to work
on. ... We learned a lot from this event, and hopefully our students did as
well"

Appeared/seemed/hopefully I'd could be less tentative?
