The blog tracking progress is located at: http://daveeloo.blogspot.com/.
Here is my introduction blurb:

Hi everyone! I'm Dave, I'm doing a masters in computer science at Mills
College. I did my undergrad at Claremont McKenna College in Psychology and
Economics. I worked in finance for 3 years before going back to school. My
coding experiences for the past few years have included web development for
an e-commerce startup (equipster.com), sotheycanknow.org (a website for STD
partner notification now being promoted by Planned Parenthood and used in
800 clinics around the country), and developing a tool for auto-generating
launch control displays at NASA.

This summer I'm working with OpenHatch to create a web app to track new
contributors in open source projects. There are various steps of
involvement in an open source project. Many people show up for something
basic like filing a bug or requesting a feature. Fewer go on to contribute
patches and even fewer go on to become maintainers. The purpose of this app
is to help mentors track people through the pipeline and improve the chance
of people making it to the end of the pipeline. The central question this
project is asking right now is "does getting in touch with contributors
make them more likely to reach the end of the pipeline?" The app will also
include features like allowing mentors to keep notes on and promote new
contributors.

For anyone reading this blog, I would love to hear from you! Please comment
if you have any ideas, observations, or criticisms. I can also be reached
at daveeloo at gmail.com or on IRC at freenode on the #openhatch channel.
Other GSOC students in the Bay Area: get in touch with me and we can have a
coding party!
