in People page currently I cannot search by specifying the location ('near'
field) only.

use case: I simply want to find out who is a contributor around my area. I do
not know names and I do not want to use the slow and cumbersome map to drill
down the geography (time consuming)

Ideally you would provide name/location/radius and the system would locate
people without having to use the map
