[OH-Dev] A weekly meeting I'd never been along before, chasing darkened skies above me (Today, 4 PM US/Eastern)

Welcome to September, everybody!

If you want to help plan the next OpenHatch release, join us at the weekly
Devel meeting: 4 PM today, Sep 3. To convert to your time zone, run this
command:

    date --date="Sep 3 16:00:00 EDT"

I'm in the process of writing up the July+Aug (0.11.07) release notes, and
I don't know if they'll be ready by the meeting, but here are some quick
highlights:

* Fixes to buildout so that it reliably downloads dependencies

* Mockups for a new, improved "I want to help!" interface

* Further performance improvements to the /people/ map (though reports
   suggest this is not yet excellent, it's now bearable)

* Disabling the automatic profile importer, since we were not putting
   in enough time to maintain it

The theme of 0.11.07 was: "Publicity, usability, stability." Personally, I
liked having a theme for the 0.11.07 release -- if you missed this, check
out https://openhatch.org/wiki/0.11.07 .

Today's the weekly meeting, which means at 4PM US/Eastern we will:

* Say hello
* Talk about what we're working on, and what we want help with
* Release planning
* What we hope to get done in the next week

With 'release planning' could come a whole lot of conversation. For
0.11.09, our upcoming release, here are some possible themes and action
items.

Theme: Code clean up
--------------------

* CSS cleanup: We could switch to using a CSS preprocessor like
   "Less CSS" that would make our stylesheets much shorter (and
   presumably easier to maintain).

* Python code cleanup: We could change our Django code to use
   class-based views, a new Django feature that would make our
   code more readable (I believe).

* JavaScript cleanup: importer.js and our other JavaScript files
   are ugly and ad-hoc, and that makes it hard to understand them.
   We could tidy them up to

Theme: Event integration
------------------------

Right now, we have a calendar at http://events.openhatch.org/. Here's
what's missing:

* Time zone support: Right now, the calendar displays all events in
   one particular time zone (UTC). Instead, it would be good to detect
   the user's time zone and show events in that.

* Links to projects: It would be great if events and OpenHatch project
   pages displayed information from each other.

Theme: "I want to help!" cleanup
--------------------------------

In 0.11.07, we iterated on some mockups for improvements to the "I want
to help!" interface. To do this well, we should:

* Get feedback on our current plans from users like Dirk Haun who have
   expressed interest in using an improved interface.

* Implement the mockups.

That's it from me for now. See you all in a few hours!
