Parker pointed out to me that this was confusing. I want to clarify: You 
are all quite welcome to discuss this change on the devel list.

I also know that email history contains decades of arguments about if what 
I just did is a good idea (e.g., 
http://woozle.org/~neale/papers/reply-to-still-harmful.html arguing it's a 
bad idea).

I'm a little worried that we'll have a big ol' flame war about this. I 
hope we don't have have a flame war. If people are genuinely troubled by 
the change, though, we should have a discussion. I'm open to doing that.

If nobody much cares one way or the other, then hooray. (-:
