And I wrote a "mostly working" implementation - it's in a patch series 
there, https://openhatch.org/bugs/issue368 but it doesn't quite work.

It needs some changes, not just review, but if someone wants to enjoy some 
Python metaprogramming and figure it out I'd appreciate it!

(For now I'm looking at Jack, but if someone beats him to it that'd be 
fine with me.)
