[Campus-purdue-staff] bringing Open Source Comes to Campus back to Purdue

As far as I know, it's just me?
I have another meeting at 3 but could switch to hangout, though I haven't used it before (I'm lurking on my gmail account, is that enough to see an invite?). Lots of emails is just fine, too.

I believe the two of us can handle the non-content logistics ourselves, but I'd appreciate hearing some lessons learned from the events that've happened earlier this semester, if you think any will apply to us. Unless they're already covered in bullets on the Trello :)

Do you anticipate being as involved in the organizing (mailing) this year as last? All the old mailing list information should still be relevant, and I have (currently Facebook-only) contacts at a couple of women-in-* groups to (hopefully) make sure the message gets out in that direction. The PLUG (Purdue Linux Users' Group) is going to help out with advertising and may be able to provide mentors from their student members, too.

So feel free to say, "Shauna, can you customize and send publicity emails to these 10 departments", for instance, but you'll have to actively ask me to do it. :) That goes for pretty much all aspects of organizing the event: I am happy to help where needed, but I'll wait for you to ask. (Mostly. Sometimes I also send emails like "Did you remember to send out reminder emails?" or "Maybe we should talk about food").

The October weekend is ideally situated, but one of our fellow student orgs is running a major hackathon that weekend: http://www.boilermake.org -- I'm asking around to see if there's a way to lever the OSCTC 'curriculum' in somehow. But how's November looking?

Since here at Purdue we have access to a couple of groups of more experienced contributors (the Greater Lafayette Open Source Symposium, the Purdue Linux Users' Group, etc.) -- and, as a result of last year's event, slightly more open lines of communication with them :) -- I wouldn't say that having an OHer here with us is as critical to the event's success, so I think we'll be fine with a more self-guided thing, but I just wanted to make sure I was reading you right.
