Howdy eventers,
I was chatting with Shauna Gordon-McKeon today on #openhatch about putting
together a plan for the coming semester in 2013's Open Source Comes to
Campus events, and here's the quick summary.
* We will aim for 3-4 events, most to all of which will be gender
diversity outreach oriented, in Jan/Feb/Mar 2013. Shauna will probably
lead-organize most-to-all of them. We'll definitely need volunteers!
* Northeastern University folks are interested in some sort of "Bug Bash"
where people fix lots of issues in open source projects, and Shauna and I
hopeful that we can run some teaching events before it, so students can
then join in the Bug Bash even if they're not NEU.edu students.
* Current priority schools in the Boston area, due to having past contacts
with them: Harvard and Wellesley.
* I'd like the tour to also visit NYC and Portland soon (hopefully during
January) due to enthusiasm from 10gen and Puppet Labs. Columbia University
women in CS is probably a great partner in NYC.
* The best dates for Boston-area events: Jan 11-13, Jan 25-27, Feb 1-3,
Feb 8-10, Feb 15-17.
* We're thinking of a west coast mini tour around the time of PyCon,
hitting Portland and SF maybe and LA maybe.
* Shauna will get in touch with people at those Boston area schools first,
and see what dates work.
