Here's a comment from the forum:

Without going into too much detail on how to change the default editor(maybe cover this in the 
basic command line usage?/text editor possible missions), it may be clearer to give the option 
(perhaps in hints)
git commit -m"foobar"
and possibly even detail 
git commit -am"..."

so that these users aren't forced to use vi.
